Water Rescue training in Konjic
Water Rescue training is held in Konjic in the period 12. – 15.07. 2021., within the project EU 4 Better Civil Protection – Capacity Building and preparation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
Training participants are representatives from civil protection authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina that will have the opportunity to learn about NFPA standards, personal and group equipment, risk assessments, Rescue 3, medical considerations and decontamination, theoretical and practical part of the lifeline, walking in shallow water, anchorages, mechanical advantage, rescue from vehicles, rapid release system, mooring and positioning of vessels, searches and helicopter.
Lecturers and instructors are experts from the Civil Protection Directorate Ministry of Interior Republic of Croatia as well as from Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.
Participants in the specified period practically go through water rescue activities where they show their skills and acquire knowledge for water rescue. The training is very important for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a country that is very rich in water resources, especially given the fact that in Bosnia and Herzegovina on several occasions there were floods that caused great material damage. Upon completion of the training activities in the field of water rescue, participants will be awarded certificates for successful completion of the training.
On the 12.07.2021. the participants went through preparatory activities in the classrooms, as a prerequisite for the practical part of the exercises that are planned to be conducted the next day. Instructors provided classroom participants with knowledge and information on NFPA standards, personal and group equipment, hydrology, zoning and risk assessment, Rescue 3, medical considerations and decontamination, and the theoretical and practical part of the lifeline. The Acting Director of the Federal Civil Protection Administration, Mr. Enes Memić was also present at the location and in the tour of the intervention and rescue units. Enes Memić and the representative of the Ministry of Security of BiH Mr. Idriz Brkovic on this occasion got acquainted with the preparations and plans for conducting the Water Rescue training in Konjic.
On the 13.07.2021. at the location of the river Neretva, practical exercises of training participants are carried out, under equipment and lifeboats, as a practical part of water rescue.
The training is part of the project activities carried out with the aim of training civil protection in Bosnia and Herzegovina to prepare for the final exercise, which will be conducted at the location of Banja Luka, as a final operational activity in the EU project – EU 4 better civil protection in BiH. The Acting Director of the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection, Mr. Dženan Brkanić came to the location and visited the intervention and rescue units. Dženan Brkanić and the representative of the Ministry of Security of BiH Mr. Idriz Brkovic on tis occasion got acquainted with the preparations and plans for conducting the Water Rescue training in Konjic.
About the project:
The project is funded by the European Union through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), and the duration of the project is from 01.03.2019. to 01.11.2021.
The project consists of five work packages. The overall goal of the Project is to reduce vulnerability to natural and other disasters, at all levels of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
